We’ve collected a few of the more common questions about the Roanoke Writers Conference and the North Texas Writers Collective. There’s a small form below where you can submit your own questions.
Who is allowed to attend the Writers Conference?
We would consider the Conference to be an all-ages event, but realistically, we believe that our attendees should be basically literate (as in, able to read) and have an interest in writing.
Can we meet the authors?
There will be some time between talks and workshops to visit with the authors, yes, as well as a vending event at the end of the day where you can buy books and get them signed (availability varies by author). However, authors are persnickety creatures with often low social batteries, so please be respectful of their space and time.
How can I get in touch with an author after the Conference?
Each author will provide the contact information that they’re comfortable providing. Please respect their privacy outside of the Conference and only engage on the channels that are approved by them. This means, no stalking or looking them up outside of those writing-related channels without their expressed and explicit permission. We take the safety of our writers – and attendees! – very seriously.
Wait, it’s totally free this year!?
It is! Registration is free to encourage people to join us and bask in the warmth and glory of writing at all its various stages. Most of the authors will have copies of their books available, and we will have vendors with writer-adjacent merchandise – journals and pens and inks and satchels and the like. Plus, the actual authors will be reading real excerpts from their books. Plus, there will be food trucks to satiate the need for nutrients and quench the thirsts.
Really, there’s no reason not to show up.
Weren’t you associated with NaN—
Nope. Well, yes, tangentially, but we were never officially a part of That Other Month-Long Writing Event, though we did have write-ins and mention it frequently in conversation. However, from this point on, we are very officially not affiliated with them. Events that came to light about the lack of security and safety for their community as well as more recent gaffes about the use of generative technology have convinced us that we do not require nor desire their association.
